Blogging can be a valid career option these days. But over 90 % of bloggers never make more money from their blogs than they spend on it. For them, blogging remains an expensive hobby. Some of them are just not putting in effort. But others are working their behinds off and are decent content creators while getting nowhere.
Why is that? Maybe they are in a niche that nobody but them is looking for online! If you want to earn an income with your blog, you should write in one of the niches that are proven to make money – good money that can replace or surpass the average income of a regular 9to5.
Blogging has become the career of choice for many people! And sure, it does have its perks. These days, many people have also realized that blogging can make a lot of money. Plus, it pays even if you take some time off.
But what many blogging gurus won’t tell you is that not all blogs are alike and have the same potential to make money!
If you want blogging to become your career, you will want to be in one of the money-making niches.
Money making blogging niches for 2022 still evolve around the “big 3” – the three most popluar money earning blogging niches:
- Health
- Wealth
- Love
Plus, another one. I like to call it the “things that many people are crazy passionate about although it is not making them rich, healthy, or loved“.
Bullet journaling or cookie decorating for example would be such a niche that can make good money although it’s not in the big 3.
Here is a break-down of blogging niches that have a proven record of money-making potential:
- Digital marketing. (wealth)
- Making money online from home. (wealth)
- Health, weight loss, and fitness. (Health)
- Personal finance. (wealth)
- Investing. (wealth)
- Recipes and food. (fourth pillar of passion hobbies, or health, for example, keto diet)
- Personal development , self-care, beauty. (Passion hobby, or health, or wealth.)
- Mental health. (Health)
- Traveling (passion)
If you are looking for blogging niche ideas that can make you an income, try to fit one of your interests into one of the big three. Then, put your spin on it.
The riches are in the niches.
They say this for a reason! If you narrow a big niche down to a certain type of person you are more likely to find true fans. People, that come back for more and are willing to spend money with you. And this is your goal, right?
So, think about how your blog is different from all the other ones out there! Are you catering to single moms who struggle financially and have little help with the kids? Are you writing for college students with ADHD? Or empty nesters who plan a trip around the world on a budget?
You see that there are lots of ways to niche down and still stick to the big niches that have income-earning potential. It’s not just the blog topic but also WHO it is tailored to.
In the beginning, it didn’t make sense to me to write to one group of people. In my eyes, I was excluding people and why would I do that?!
Because if you try to write to everyone, you write to nobody. This is somewhat the worst-case scenario for bloggers.
But if you instead refine your content strategy and write to one specific person they will love your content. They will love that they can relate to you and come back to read more. They are the ones signing up for your list.
These people are the ones that you can build a relationship and trust with. They nod their heads when you describe the typical problems they face. And smirk when you describe how you tried to cheat your way out of it – and failed.
And… they are the ones that will trust you enough to pull out the credit card for the offers you make them. It could be an affiliate promotion or a product of your own. They know that you have been in their shoes and suggest products that can help them with their specific problems.
Targeting a specific person will help you figure out a unique blogging niche with low competition. Yay!
If you create a personal finance blog, for example, you will be in a big money-earning niche. But you will also face high competition.
Writing to your people will create a low-competition blogging niche instead. For example, if you stick to college students with ADHD you have set yourself apart from the vast majority of finance bloggers.
And you now have a money-making blogging niche with low competition that will do much better!
Examples of well defined niche blogs that create raving fans – Here you go!
Cruelty Free Kitty Blog about shopping great skincare products that are cruelty free and vegan. Beauty/Health/Passion. 160K people follow her on Instagram!
Lacy Estelle. Blogger with ADHD who writes about ADHD life, parenting her sons who have ADHD, learning and relationships. Health/Love
The Busy Budgeter. Personal Finance advice for the chronically disorganized mom who craves more control. Wealth/Health
Heart Of A Baker. Food blog, with only baking and dessert recipes that are strictly vegan. Health/Passion
Now, if you were having friends over that eat vegan, would you go to just any food blog to find a dessert to make for them or would you prefer to go to a blog with sweet vegan recipes only so you know they are failproof and yummy?
Now you have your niche down, let’s move on.
You should also plan a little bit on how you want to make money.
Are you ok with ad revenue? Then you need to be in a popular blogging niche that attracts a lot of blog visitors daily! You need to get good amounts of traffic to be able to apply for an ad network that pays more than Google Adsense. With enough traffic you can even earn a full income just from ads. So go for popular and more general topics!
If you want to start blogging to find high-ticket coaching clients, you can get away with less traffic that is highly targeted to the programs you sell! Your ideal client is your blogging niche.
In the best of cases, you create multiple streams of income with your blog. That way it won’t affect you as much if one of them runs dry!
I remember when Amazon decided to cut down the profit margin for their affiliates’ sales. People lost more than half of what they were making before with Amazon affiliate links.
EU came up with GDPR that affected everyone who is online … and who knows what they put out next.
Whatever blogging niche you go for, remember to be unique and talk to your people instead of trying to please everyone. That is your best chance at success.
